Running Lines and Fixing Defenders

The goal of this session is to get your ball carriers to run straight with the ball, and for your support runners to run good lines to create depth and width in the attack.

Aims of the session:

  • Ensure players are running lines in support
  • Use straight runs to fix defenders (mainly with the ball)
  • Draw the opposition out of position (mainly without the ball)

Use the videos in this plan to improve your players' running with the ball in hand.

The ability to run straight rather than across the field is essential. This may sound simple but when opposition players are rushing forward, to put you on the floor it makes it more difficult!
