Kicking fun for beginners - Perfecting the Kick

A solid kicking game should be part of every team's attacking strategy. That's why this U10-U14s plan aims to improve your players' ability to kick from the hand using the 4 key kicking principles below - to increase both their confidence and skill levels so they're prepared to kick in a game.

The 4 kicking from hand principles:

  1. Keep your eyes on the ball
  2. Point non-kicking foot in the direction of the kick
  3. Point the ball in the direction of your kick
  4. Stand strong on your non-kicking leg and follow through

What's in the session?

This plan works on grubbers, punts and box kicks in a series of conditioned games. To do this we start with a simple kicking warm-up which will allow you to coach the key points of kicking.

Once players have perfected the basics we then move onto mini-games which will help your players to learn when to employ the kick and to see how accurate kicking can help your side in the right sort of situation.

This session can also be used with older children and adults - great for beginners and works well to refresh your players' skill.
